Claire was the first paraplegic to walk a Marathon in a robotic suit. She took on weeks of training before which was challenging, but it still wasn’t long to get her technique and confidence in the suit and take on the 26.2 mile route.
Claire’s injury doesn’t just mean her legs are paralysed but also her core, and she has no sensation from her chest down. Imagine trying to walk but not feeling where your legs are and trusting they will hold you up. Not easy!
It took 17 days, and most of it was in the rain. The support was unbelievable. So many people came to walk with Claire (old friends, new friends and celebrities) which really spurred Claire on. It raised £210,000 for Spinal Research, and huge awareness of spinal injuries. When Claire completed it got worldwide press.
Claire would like to thank everyone who helped make this possible and encouraged her to keep going! It was a great feeling to want to sit down at the end of the day!
